GREEN ROOM exposes life on tour through the small, secret moments not seen under the house lights. Using the dichotomy between Rachel Demy’s color photography and Tyler Kalberg’s black-and-white, you see the highs and the lows, the camaraderie and the solitude, the exhilaration and the exhaustion that compose a story much deeper than the performer on stage. It’s a story of the people who make the music, and why it’s important that the long road leads home.

Having traveled the world with musicians for the last 10 years, I am equally as drawn to expansive natural landscapes as I am to the suffocating microcosm of dirty green rooms. Firmament is a small example of a larger body of landscape photographs taken during my travels that expound upon my lifelong fascination with the sky. I believe that though we can never naturally step foot in the sky, the sky ultimately dictates how we stand, move and feel on land. It can elevate, bear down, reflect, multiply itself in everything and even consume for no real reason. That something so untouchable can be both liberating and terrifying is one example of how terrestrial creatures can access the divine every day. By simply looking up.
